Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in New York on Thursday.
He is there for the United Nations General Assembly.
He has no plans to meet U.S. President Donald Trump.
He will not even be in the same city as Trump.
The two leaders started the year as friends.
They promised to stand together against Iran.
But now they disagree about how to fight that war.
Netanyahu now faces criticism from around the world.
People are angry about Israel's war in Gaza.
They are also angry about violence by settlers in the occupied West Bank.
He will meet only a few leaders before his speech.
Many people in Washington connect him to the unpopular Iran fight.
Trump has tried to avoid looking forced into a war.
He once called it a "little excursion."
This is Netanyahu's first trip like this since Israel started the Gaza war three years ago.
The war began after the Hamas-led attacks of Oct. 7, 2023.
He faces an election next month.
Many people see the election as a vote on how he handled the attacks.
Many world leaders at the summit have sharply criticized Israel's actions in Gaza.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged his arrest.
He cited an International Criminal Court warrant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
The U.S. is not a member of the court.
The city cannot arrest him.
Netanyahu often uses props and fluent English in his speeches.
The speeches are mainly aimed at Israeli voters at home.
Michael Oren is a former Israeli ambassador to the U.S.
He said Netanyahu times his speech for Israeli primetime.
But experts say the lack of big meetings could hurt him.
Eytan Gilboa is an expert on U.S.-Israel relations.
He called the trip a mistake that shows Netanyahu's weaknesses.
He said failing to get a Trump meeting shows poor management of ties with Israel's strongest ally.
In 2023, President Joe Biden met Netanyahu at the summit.
Biden did not really want to, but he did it.
Gilboa said Israel cannot survive without the United States.
