President Donald Trump's team asked the Supreme Court on Thursday.
They want to keep sending immigrants quickly to other countries.
The government wants to stop some court orders right away.
Those orders say people must have a chance to say no first.
They must have this chance before being sent to a country that is not their home.
The judges let the deportation flights continue for a short time last year.
Then an appeals court agreed with a Boston judge's final decision.
That decision says migrants must have a real chance to argue.
They must be able to say that a third country would put them in danger.
They could be hurt or tortured there.
The decision did not stop those deportations.
But it makes the process take longer.
The government says the decision already stopped a flight.
That flight was carrying 70 people with criminal records to three countries.
Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote that the government has sent thousands of people to third countries in recent months.
He said thousands more can be sent too.
The administration says it sends people to third countries when it cannot send them home quickly.
Lawyers said those third-country governments promise that people will not be hurt or tortured.
James Percival is the general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security.
On Wednesday, he said on X that 25,000 people in the U.S. illegally have been deported to third countries.
He called these deportations an important tool for public safety.
Most deportees have been sent to Mexico.
The administration has also sent thousands of others to more than two dozen countries.
These include Liberia and Guyana.
These deals are often secret.
Some deportees have faced serious danger.
This month, lawyers for two men deported to Equatorial Guinea spoke.
They said police beat the men and held them at gunpoint.
The men were held in a hotel that was turned into a detention center.
