After a day to mull things over and a chance to agree with the many New York Jets fans angered by his late-game clock management and crucial calls that backfired in a loss to the Green Bay Packers, coach Aaron Glenn doubled down instead.
He expressed no regrets, entertained no second thoughts, and offered no mea culpas for his fourth-quarter decisions that perhaps cost the Jets their first 2-0 start in 11 years.
With the score knotted at 17 and merely 1:20 remaining in regulation, the Jets, facing a fourth-and-1 from the 50-yard line, elected to go for it under Glenn's direction.
Braelon Allen was stopped for no gain, resulting in a turnover on downs that handed the Packers both the time and favorable field position.
"Man, we were going to try to win the game," Glenn said.
"Listen, I do not regret that decision, not one bit."
After Christian Watson was brought down following a completed pass, the Packers found themselves facing fourth-and-5 from the Jets 45 with 1:05 remaining.
Glenn opted against calling a timeout — he still had two at his disposal — and instead allowed Green Bay to let the clock wind down.
The Packers were flagged for delay of game, incurring a 10-second runoff, after which they took a timeout to attempt a Hail Mary with 2 seconds left.
Glenn at last called a timeout to organize the defense, which proceeded to sack Jordan Love, sending the game into overtime.
Matt LaFleur, the Packers' head coach, was left utterly confounded by the decision Glenn had reached.
“Oh yeah, I was taken aback,” LaFleur said.
“I was thoroughly bewildered by that, which is precisely why we called a timeout and attempted a Hail Mary.”
The Packers ultimately emerged victorious, securing a 20-17 win in overtime.
Glenn’s steadfastness may not quite match the celebrated “No Ragrets” line from the 2013 comedy “We’re the Millers,” but on Monday, it’s safe to say that many Jets fans could relate to the scene in which the character Scottie P. proudly shows off a large chest tattoo with the word “Regrets” misspelled as “Ragrets,” and explains that he has none.
Glenn's doubling down was also reminiscent of Nathaniel Hackett's infamous insistence that he had done the right thing in his Denver debut by settling for a 64-yard field goal attempt after crossing midfield in the waning seconds in Seattle.
That baffling mistake turned his head-coaching debut into a failure and ruined Russell Wilson's homecoming.
Tom Brady left many opponents cursing as he won seven Super Bowls over the course of an unparalleled playing career that should earn him a place in Canton, Ohio, in 2028.
He let slip an expletive upon viewing a replay of Jayden Daniels’ gruesome elbow injury on Sunday.
"Oh (shoot!)" Brady exclaimed.
"My sincerest apologies, I had not been anticipating that."
On Monday night, Peyton Manning, another iconic quarterback, exhibited a notably subdued response upon New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart sustaining an injury to his left knee in the matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
“Oh no!” Manning exclaimed.
“Oh no! No, no, no, no, no!
That is decidedly not what we wish to witness.
Good heavens!”
