The U.S. military asserts it is engaging targets within Iran as hostilities escalate anew following a month-long cessation of armed operations.

U.S. Central Command reported Tuesday that the strikes “follow recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region.”

On Sunday, the U.S. military announced that it had struck rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

In retaliation, Iran launched missiles at U.S. positions in Jordan, all of which were intercepted, while the United Arab Emirates reported that it had neutralized an Iranian drone over its territorial waters.

President Donald Trump conceded on Monday that further strikes might prove to be an ineluctable necessity.

Trump asserted that the combined U.S. and Israeli bombardment has reduced Iran to "a failed nation."

He contended that a substantial portion of its political leadership has been eliminated, its economy is reeling under the strain of surging inflation, and its military has been left in ruins.

Nevertheless, Trump conceded that additional strikes might prove to be an imperative necessity.

“That is by no means to suggest we shall refrain from administering a sound thrashing,” Trump apprised reporters.

“We shall see how events unfold.”

The United States and Iran have been embroiled in a protracted, albeit intermittent, conflict for upwards of six months, with the most recent cessation of hostilities enduring for a month.
