Aaron Judge’s return to the New York Yankees materialized after a 99-day hiatus—an interval precisely commensurate with his uniform number.

Having fully recuperated from a fractured rib, Judge took his place in right field and assumed the third position in the batting order on Tuesday evening, as the series opener against the Colorado Rockies commenced.

“He won’t see out the entirety of today’s fixture, notwithstanding his inclination to do so,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone remarked.

“He’ll likely be afforded one of the days during this series as respite.”

A three-time AL MVP, Judge had been consigned to the sidelines for 84 games since his last outing on May 31.

The 34-year-old made a concerted effort to prevail upon Boone to restore him to the active roster following the hamstring strain sustained by centerfielder Trent Grisham on Friday night.

“He materialized at my doorstep in San Diego after Grish sustained his injury: ‘Ready to depart tomorrow,’” Boone recounted.

“I was reluctant to acquiesce, as there remained several outstanding matters we were adamant he scrutinize.”

Judge took batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Monday’s off day and was activated that night.

Boone had conferred separately with Judge, as well as strength and conditioning coach Brett McCabe, subsequently consulting the athletic training staff, general manager Brian Cashman, and owner Hal Steinbrenner.

"Hal's singular objective was to ascertain the collective disposition and our precise standing on the matter," Boone remarked.

“We persevered,” Boone remarked.

“There have been intervals during which our offensive output has proven to be a considerable ordeal.”

According to MLB Statcast, opposing pitchers exhibited a markedly more aggressive disposition toward the remaining Yankees' batters during Judge's absence.

Ben Rice's strike rate ascended to 48.3%, a rise from 46.7%, while Cody Bellinger's escalated to 49.7%, up from 47.3%.

“There is an effect around him netting better opportunities and better at-bats for everyone,” Boone said.

“We’re very left-handed and have been much of the year.

So how many days a week are we getting a lefty in the fifth inning, in the seventh inning and the ninth inning and they’re matching up against us and they don’t have to roll through Aaron Judge that’s surrounding those lefties?”

New York entered the fray with an 81–62 record, trailing the American League East-leading Tampa Bay by four games while holding a two-game advantage over Boston (80–65) for the top American League wild-card berth.

The Yankees possess a potential head-to-head tiebreaker over the Red Sox, having clinched the season series.

Judge achieved a career-best batting average of .331, complemented by 53 home runs and 114 RBIs across 152 games last season, thereby securing his third Most Valuable Player award alongside his inaugural batting title.

Reliever Fernando Cruz, who has been sidelined since August 25 owing to a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, has elected to forgo Tommy John surgery following an evaluation by Dr. Keith Meister, the Texas Rangers' team physician, and remains hopeful of returning to the mound before the season concludes.

Cruz has undergone a corticosteroid injection and is poised to resume his throwing schedule in the imminent future.

"Should it give way, so be it," he remarked.

"Upon hearing a pop or any anomalous sound, that is the moment to seek surgical intervention."

Left-hander Ryan Weathers threw off flat ground up to 75 feet as he endeavors to make his comeback from a left forearm flexor strain that has kept him out of action since Aug. 22.

Weathers is slated to resume his throwing regimen on Wednesday and Thursday, observe a hiatus on Friday, and subsequently contemplate mound work thereafter.

His aspiration is to secure a bullpen assignment for the postseason.
