A federal appeals court has temporarily stopped a judge's order that told President Donald Trump to give control of National Guard troops back to California. These troops were sent to Los Angeles because of protests about immigration. Before this, a judge had said that sending the troops was illegal and that Trump had used too much power. California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, had supported this decision. However, the White House said the judge's order was "unprecedented" and an "abuse of power." This decision only affects the National Guard, not the Marines who are also being sent. Governor Newsom had tried to stop the Guard from being sent, saying it would make things worse and cause public unrest. The troops were sent under a law that allows the president to use the National Guard for federal service in certain situations.
