For the first time, some parts of Alaska will get a heat advisory. This is a new term the National Weather Service is using instead of "special weather statements." They want to better explain how serious and dangerous the weather can be, not just say temperatures are very high. The first advisory was for Fairbanks, where temperatures were expected to go above 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is unusual for June. This new term doesn't mean climate change is the reason, but it shows that hot weather does affect Alaska, especially in places without air conditioning. Right now, this advisory system is only used in Juneau and Fairbanks, but they plan to use it in Anchorage too. However, temperatures in Anchorage haven't been high enough yet for a heat advisory.
