New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, a Democratic candidate for mayor, was arrested by federal agents at an immigration court. He was arrested because he held onto someone the authorities wanted to detain. Lander was at the federal building in Manhattan, observing immigration court hearings. When agents tried to detain a man leaving a courtroom, Lander linked arms with him and asked to see a judge's warrant. The agents eventually separated them and arrested Lander. After his release, Lander stated he was simply trying to protest peacefully against the previous government's immigration policies. His arrest happened as more people are being arrested outside immigration courts across the country. Other Democratic politicians have criticized Lander's arrest.
