Russian President Vladimir Putin convened with U.S. emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Saturday for deliberations aimed at resuscitating the moribund initiative to terminate the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The envoys’ arrival coincided with an intensification of aerial hostilities on both fronts.

Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mutually consented to a cessation of strikes against each other’s capitals for the duration of the negotiations.

Washington’s endeavor to terminate hostilities has lost its impetus, as American strategic attention has been engrossed over the preceding six months by the conflict with Iran.

The most recent documented sojourn to Moscow by Witkoff and Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, occurred in January, during which they likewise conducted deliberations with Putin within the Kremlin.

According to Ukrainian officials, both U.S. envoys are poised to make their inaugural visit to Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, this Sunday, thereby marking a seminal juncture in the ongoing peace process.

At the inception of the deliberations in Moscow, Putin beseeched Kushner and Witkoff to transmit his cordial salutations and profound appreciation to Trump, whilst delineating the circumstances in Ukraine as "not simple."

Russian armed forces initiated a comprehensive and unprovoked incursion into Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

"(Russian President Vladimir) Putin has issued a directive that no strikes be conducted against Kyiv for a period of three days, commencing at midnight tonight," presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed Russia’s Tass news agency.

Zelenskyy declared that Ukraine was poised to suspend hostilities against Moscow until Monday, having engaged in discussions with the U.S. delegation on Saturday afternoon subsequent to their arrival in the Russian capital.

"From the present moment through the culmination of Saturday, and extending across Sunday and Monday, Ukraine is fully prepared to eschew any offensive actions against Moscow, and we anticipate that the Russian side will exhibit commensurate forbearance with respect to Kyiv," he articulated.

According to reports from Tass, the American envoys were received at Moscow's airport by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who documented their arrival by sharing photographs of his encounter with the U.S. delegation as they alighted from the aircraft, accompanied by the caption, “Welcome to Moscow Peacemakers.”

With peace negotiations at an impasse, Russia has escalated its assaults on Kyiv and other urban centers, subjecting them to unremitting bombardments that now extend into daylight hours, thereby exploiting Ukraine's acute deficit of anti-aircraft capabilities.

On Friday, a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle struck one of Kyiv’s most pivotal governmental edifices—the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service, designated the SBU, an institution integral to orchestrating deep-strike incursions within Russian territory.

Ukraine’s long-range strikes have systematically targeted Russian military installations, petroleum refineries, and e-commerce infrastructure, with the dual objective of crippling the Kremlin’s war machine and economic stability while simultaneously compelling ordinary civilians to confront the tangible repercussions of the conflict.

The aerial confrontation between the Russian Federation and Ukraine has escalated markedly, even as belligerent forces have found themselves unable to achieve decisive territorial gains along the 1,250-kilometer (775-mile) front line.

In recent weeks, Moscow has deployed swift, jet-propelled unmanned aerial vehicles, and the incessant, mournful ululation of air-raid sirens has become an entrenched facet of quotidian existence in Kyiv.

In a social media post on Saturday, Zelenskyy asserted that Russia had conducted nocturnal strikes targeting the Kyiv and Boryspil international airports, explicitly linking this aggression to his forthcoming visit to the United States.

“Manifestly, these Russian strikes on the airports constitute a direct response to the deliberations and contingency planning surrounding the prospective deployment of a U.S. aircraft to convey personnel into Ukraine,” he asserted.

We have duly registered this Russian manoeuvre, and in the coming week we shall recalibrate our operations accordingly with respect to Russian airspace, which has become perilous owing to the presence of our unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles aloft.

Naturally, no impediments to diplomatic engagement exist or will arise from our side.

Russian strikes on an industrial facility in Ukraine's southern Dnipropetrovsk region have exacted a grievous toll, claiming five lives and leaving five others wounded, as reported by local military administration head Oleksandr Hanzha, who further elaborated that the casualties were employees present at the site.

“A locksmith, an electrician, a plumber and a machinist—individuals engaged in the most innocuous of vocations.

They were merely discharging their duties, simply executing their professional obligations, when enemy missiles abruptly extinguished their lives,” he remarked.

A 62-year-old man sustained injuries, while numerous residences and an apartment edifice incurred damage, in a discrete assault on the region's Nikopol district, as reported by Hanzha.

In a communiqué issued on Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Defense proclaimed that it had executed precision strikes on two metallurgical plants in the region, branding them as “major suppliers of metal products for Ukraine’s military production.”

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the regional military administration, reported that an additional two individuals sustained injuries during an overnight Russian assault on Ukraine’s Kyiv region.

In the Boryspil district, a conflagration ignited by the strike wrought partial destruction upon a nine-story residential edifice.

Throughout the nocturnal hours, Russian forces executed a series of coordinated drone offensives targeting a shopping complex in the southern Mykolaiv region, inflicting substantial devastation upon the retail infrastructure and igniting conflagrations, as corroborated by Ukraine's state emergency services.

The assault culminated in the wounding of a septuagenarian male and an adolescent female of seventeen years.

Emergency crews responding to the attack were repeatedly compelled to retreat to safety owing to the imminent peril of subsequent strikes, resuming their operations whenever circumstances permitted, the emergency services reported.

Ukraine's air force has reported that Russia launched ballistic missiles from its Rostov and Voronezh oblasts and deployed 167 attack drones overnight, with approximately half of these being jet-propelled Shahed-type aircraft, supplemented by Geran and decoy variants.

Ukrainian air defenses successfully neutralized or suppressed 128 of these drones, as per the military's statement.

Elsewhere, Ukrainian offensives inflicted casualties on three individuals, among them a 14-year-old girl, within Russia's Belgorod border region, as reported by local authorities.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has asserted that its forces successfully intercepted and neutralized 53 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles during the nocturnal hours.
