New York Governor Kathy Hochul wants an investigation.

A woman says seven students raped her in 2024.

She says it happened at the Chi Phi fraternity house.

The house is on campus.

She says it happened in October 2024.

Her lawsuit says people gave her ketamine.

They gave her marijuana and alcohol too.

She says she could not say yes to sex.

The woman told Cornell police about it.

But the local district attorney's office did not prosecute anyone then.

On Monday, it reopened the criminal investigation.

This happened after many people got angry.

Hochul said she supports this decision.

But she wants an outside law firm to investigate Cornell.

She wants them to look at Cornell's reporting system.

She wants them to look at Cornell's response system.

She wants them to look at Cornell's prevention system.

She also wants them to look at campus culture.

District Attorney Matthew Van Houten spoke.

He said the male students did things that were "morally wrong."

But he said the woman's first story to police was different.

He said she did not say she was drugged.

He said she did not say she could not say yes.

He said she did not say she was forced into sex.

He defended his office's earlier decision.

He said her statement to police was detailed and complete.

Cornell said it supports reopening the criminal investigation.

The university said its own investigation led to some students being punished.

Some were expelled.

The Chi Phi chapter is still barred from campus.

The woman's lawsuit accuses Cornell.

It says Cornell failed to prevent the alleged attacks.

It says Cornell did not properly deal with sexual violence on campus.
