Three news groups came back to the White House on Thursday.
A judge had lifted the ban for now.
The ban was on CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
The ban was part of a fight between President Donald Trump and these news groups.
He does not like their stories.
But the White House was still not normal.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping visited Washington that day.
No big U.S. network showed it live.
The White House had banned CNN from a group of five big U.S. TV news groups.
These groups take turns filming and sharing video.
The other four said no to the video pool.
They did this to support CNN.
In the morning, the three banned groups could not go in.
A Secret Service agent took their badges.
After the ruling, White House officials were told to let them back in.
They said they needed time to find and turn on the badges.
This took more than two hours.
A court paper said this.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly told the White House to give the three groups access back right away.
He said they will likely win their case.
Their press passes were taken without a fair process, he said.
Trump chose Kelly as a judge in 2017.
Kelly said the government must have clear rules for taking away a press pass.
He said the rule in the White House letters was "so vague it hardly does the trick."
He also said no to the government's claim.
The government said the reporting was bad for national security.
Theodore Boutrous Jr. is the lawyer for the news groups.
He said the ruling supported press freedom and the rule of law.
Michael Velchik is a lawyer for the Justice Department.
He said going to the White House is a privilege, not a right.
The temporary order ends in two weeks.
The judge told both sides to send their arguments by Oct. 5.
Then he will decide on a longer ruling.
