Archbishop Timothy Broglio leads Catholic services for Catholics in the U.S. military.
He is against the plan to show Nidal Hasan's execution live on the internet.
Hasan will die by firing squad.
In a statement on Monday, Broglio also said Catholic soldiers should ask to leave the firing squad.
He said this duty is against the teachings of the church.
Broglio joins other Catholic leaders.
They have spoken against the death penalty and the livestream plans.
Hasan is an Army psychiatrist.
He was found guilty of killing 13 people in 2009 at Fort Hood in Texas.
He is set to be executed by firing squad on Dec. 3.
Broglio remembered that he led the funeral of Michael Grant Cahill.
Cahill was the only civilian killed in that attack.
Broglio asked if showing Hasan's execution to the public has any purpose.
He said the crime was very bad.
Broglio also said the U.S. military usually has a good name in the world.
He asked if there is really any value in putting the military in the same boat with terrorists.
He said this would happen if the execution of a man in a wheelchair is shown to the whole world.
