Hurricane Rachel formed on Wednesday in the Pacific Ocean.

The National Hurricane Center said this.

It was not a danger to land.

Rachel was about 380 miles (615 kilometers) west of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico.

It was also about 220 miles (350 kilometers) southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.

Its strongest winds were about 85 mph (140 kph).

The center in Miami said this.

Forecasters said it would get stronger fast.

It could become a major hurricane.

The storm was moving northwest at 9 mph (15 kph).

Forecasters said it would turn west-northwest.

Then it would turn west later this week.

It was expected to move away from mainland Mexico.

It would pass south of the Baja California peninsula.

The center said the Mexican government stopped all coastal watches and warnings.

Hurricane-force winds reached up to 25 miles (35 kilometers) from the center.

Tropical-storm-force winds reached up to 160 miles (260 km).

In the central Pacific, Tropical Storm Nolo brought dangerous conditions.

This was for parts of Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

The storm was a hurricane before.

It brought heavy rain to parts of Hawaii's Big Island over the weekend.

Its strongest winds were near 50 mph (85 kph).

Pacific storm activity has been above average this year.

This is normal for El Niño years.
