New York Gov. Kathy Hochul wants an investigation.
She wants to know how Cornell University handled a rape case from 2024.
A woman says seven students raped her.
She says it happened at the Chi Phi fraternity house at the school.
This was in October 2024.
Her lawsuit says people made her take ketamine.
They also made her smoke marijuana and drink alcohol.
She could not say yes to sex.
The woman told the Cornell police about it.
But the local district attorney's office did not charge anyone then.
On Monday, it opened the criminal case again.
This happened after many people got angry about her story.
Hochul said she supports this decision.
But she wants an outside law firm to look into Cornell.
She wants them to check how Cornell reports, answers, and stops these problems.
She also wants them to check the school's culture.
District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said the male students did things that were "morally wrong."
But he said the woman's first story to police did not say she was drugged.
It did not say she could not say yes.
It did not say she was forced into sex.
He defended his office's earlier decision.
He said her words to police were detailed and complete.
Cornell said it supports opening the criminal case again.
The university said its own investigation led to some students being punished or kicked out.
The Chi Phi chapter is still not allowed on campus.
The woman's lawsuit says Cornell failed to stop the alleged attacks.
It also says Cornell did not deal with sexual violence on campus in the right way.
