Two storms moved through the Pacific on Thursday.
Hurricane Polo brought heavy rain to Mexico's west coast.
Tropical Storm Nolo moved toward Hawaii.
People in Mexico put sandbags around their homes.
Then they left.
On Hawaii's Big Island and Maui, people got ready for possible bad floods.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Polo's rain could cause dangerous floods and landslides in Mexico.
In the port city of Lazaro Cardenas, seawater came into homes on Thursday.
Wooden boards and furniture were left on the streets.
Polo has been between Category 4 and 5.
Both are very strong.
Its strongest winds were expected to stay offshore.
The center passed near the coast.
Tropical Storm Nolo was getting stronger far from the southern tip of Hawaii's Big Island.
Forecasters said hurricane conditions would reach the state Friday night.
Rain could be more than 2 feet (60 centimeters).
The islands are still recovering from earlier storms.
Schools were closed for the rest of the week.
Maui could also face dangerous floods and mudslides, the hurricane center said.
Mexican authorities opened shelters.
They moved people away from the beaches.
They sent 15,000 security workers.
They also closed schools to be safe.
They did not say right away how many people had left.
Guerrero state was at special risk of floods and mudslides, the hurricane center said.
People there remembered past storms.
One was Hurricane Otis in 2023.
It brought weeks of trouble to Acapulco.
"So many people said it wouldn't happen and then it did," said Gonzalo Ramírez, a bartender in the city.
