On Monday, they found the last person who was missing from a boat that sank on Lake Tahoe in California. The boat sank because of a big storm over the weekend. Eight people died in total.
On Saturday afternoon, a boat with ten people on it turned over near D.L. Bliss State Park. This happened because a storm made big waves. The U.S. Coast Guard said this. The boat was 27 feet (8 meters) long.
Two people were saved quickly and went to the hospital, but we didn't know how they were. Six bodies were found on Saturday, and one more was found on Sunday evening. Divers looked in Lake Tahoe and found the last body on Monday afternoon.
Kyle Parker said they will not tell the names of the people who died until their families know.
People have drowned in the lake in recent years. Other accidents have also caused deaths. Big boat accidents with many people dying are not common. In 2022, the South Lake Tahoe Police said that about six people die in the lake each summer. But in 2021, 15 people died, which was a lot. The police don't have the newest numbers yet.
The storm was very strong. Even the weather experts were surprised. They thought it would rain a little, but it was much worse near the lake around 3 p.m. A weather expert named Matthew Chyba said the wind was over 35 mph (56 kph) and the waves were more than 8 feet (2.5 meters) high.
"We didn't think it would be this strong," Chyba said.
He said it was much colder than usual in the area, and this might have made the weather change quickly.
Chyba said that the eight-foot waves on Lake Tahoe were "pretty big". He said, "They were really shaking the lake."
Lake Tahoe is a famous place for summer fun, like boating and kayaking. This beautiful, cold lake sits between California and Nevada, and it's one of the deepest lakes in the United States.
The people in charge haven't told us anything about the group on the boat that turned over. They also haven't said if they rented the boat or if it was their own.
The storm that happened on Saturday was over in about two hours.
Brittany Glick was on a boat she rented with seven friends. They were celebrating a friend's party on Saturday when the wind started to get stronger and the waves became bigger. She said that the day started sunny, but quickly it got colder and they couldn't see very well.
"It felt like we were in a big wave that was just starting. I've never felt anything like it," she said.
After about an hour, the boat returned to the dock. The water became very rough, and the passengers got completely wet. Then, it suddenly started to hail.
"Glick said we were scared when we saw the boats turned over. We were very cold because we were wet. We couldn't stop shaking. Our feet felt like they weren't there, and our toes were going blue. It was one of the scariest times in my life. The storm came very fast. It was really frightening."
A video showed boats in a marina hitting each other because of strong winds.
