President Trump's new law changes taxes and how the government spends money. It also plans to use a lot of money to send many people out of the country.
On Tuesday, Republican leaders used the protests in Los Angeles to say that their long bill should pass quickly. People are protesting Trump's immigration actions at places like Home Depot. Democrats do not agree with the bill.
Mike Johnson said the new law will help a lot. It will add 10,000 new immigration officers. It will also give $45 billion to build more places for migrants. And it will provide more money to send at least 1 million people out of the country every year.
Senator John Thune said, "When you see what is happening in Los Angeles, you understand that the police need all the help we can give them."
Congress is slowly working on a plan to spend about $350 billion on national security. President Trump wants this plan finished by July 4th. Some Republican senators want to pass it without the Democrats' help, but other Republicans in their own party do not like some parts of the plan.
The government office (CBO) said that the new law would mean 10.9 million more people would not have health insurance. Also, 3 million people each month might not get food help. The CBO also said this law could make the country's debt grow by about $2.4 trillion over ten years.
Republican leaders are worried about the bill. Someone in the Senate checks if the bill follows the special rules for the budget. This is a new problem for them.
On Monday, Republicans said there might be problems with their new law. They need to change it before sending it from the House to the Senate. They are using a special way to pass the law easily, because they only have a few more votes than the other party in the House and Senate.
Steve Scalise said Republicans want to fix the problems. They might vote in the House this week to change the plan.
Chuck Schumer, a main Democrat, said the new vote in the House is a chance for Republicans who don't like the plan to show their power and change the plan.
Schumer said they don't like some things in the plan, and now they can change it.
On Tuesday, Vice President JD Vance talked to Senator Ron Johnson. Senator Johnson wants the new law to spend less money. He thinks this will help stop the country's debt from growing. Other Republican senators are also worried about the new law cutting money for health care.
Republicans agree on border security, sending people back, and money for the military. Democrats do not agree and tried to remove these parts from the plan.
The plan includes about $150 billion for border safety and to send people out of the country. This money will help hire 10,000 new officers. Johnson said they will get an extra $10,000 when they start. It also pays for 3,000 new border agents and other workers.
The plan also has money to keep 100,000 migrants every day and to send 1 million people back to their countries each year. It also includes 46 billion dollars to build the wall that Trump said he would build between the U.S. and Mexico.
Also, the bill gives $150 billion to the army. This includes $5 billion to help the army protect the border. It also gives almost $25 billion for Trump's special defense system for the U.S. And, the bill gives another $21 billion to the Coast Guard.
Democrats do not agree with sending people away. They think Trump wants to start protests so he can control immigrants.
Nanette Barragan, a politician from Paramount, asked Americans to pay attention. She said the government is using strong words like 'rebellion' and 'invasion'.
She said the government is planning to do even more difficult things.
She said that she was worried because it was dangerous and not right.
