Oprah Winfrey stood in solitude at the Sphere, endeavouring to fathom what she had beheld following U2’s opening-night performance in 2023.

Transfixed by the multisensory spectacle, the Queen of All Media entertained a notion: might she harness the groundbreaking, 4D capabilities of the globe-shaped arena to facilitate others in attaining their loftiest potential?

“One might deploy this technology as a visual, immersive experience, thereby enabling individuals to delve more profoundly into themselves and emerge imbued with a sense of awe and wonder at what it means to be alive,” remarked the media mogul, whose empire was forged in large measure by inspiring viewers of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’

“I am cognizant that there exists something more, and that more could genuinely help people perceive themselves anew.

It harbours the potential to constitute an extraordinary experience of magnificent wonder.”

That nascent notion crystallized into “Oprah Winfrey’s AHA,” scheduled for April 2–4 at the Sphere, the $2.3 billion cutting-edge Las Vegas venue that has played host to performances by The Backstreet Boys, Phish, the Eagles and No Doubt — as well as a widely embraced “The Wizard of Oz” cinematic experience.

The two-hour live event will showcase Winfrey alongside special guests and performances, among them multiple Grammy laureate Jacob Collier, poet and author Ocean Vuong, musician Ajeet and gospel vocalist Wintley Phipps.

Contributing to the all-star assemblage crafting the experience with Winfrey are Oscar-nominated composer Max Richter, Grammy-nominated musicians Jason White and Jon Hopkins, playwright and MacArthur “genius grant” recipient Tarell Alvin McCraney and Es Devlin, the stage designer for Beyoncé’s “Formation” and “Renaissance” world tours.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Sept. 25.

Fifteen years have elapsed since Winfrey concluded her iconic talk show, which last week commemorated the 40th anniversary of its entry into U.S. syndication.

She has remained occupied with her podcast, her responsibilities as CEO of her eponymous OWN TV network, and an array of tours and live appearances.

At 72, an age at which many gravitate toward retirement, Winfrey evinces no inclination to decelerate entirely.

"I contemplated retreating behind the gate to gather roses," Winfrey quipped.

"The veritable truth is, I have been granted yet another formidable decade.

I am acutely cognizant of time's exigency, and I feel I have something of consequence to impart … and enlisting all of these collaborators to help me articulate it in a more forceful, phenomenal and immersive manner constitutes my offering for this remaining decade."

Albeit no longer a daily fixture in the lives of millions of television viewers, Winfrey’s influence remains formidable.

Her book club continues to represent a coveted pinnacle for authors, a mere appearance on her “Favorite Things” list can alter a company’s fortunes, and politicians still seek her endorsement.

"I surmise that I have been afforded this opportunity because, as you are aware, I possess the wherewithal to exploit it, I know precisely what to do with it.

Yet I persist in posing this question: Why have I been granted it?

I recognize that it constitutes such a monumental opportunity that I ought not to take it for granted," said the philanthropist, who still writes daily in a journal replete with gratitude entries concerning all she has accomplished.

She hopes "AHA" attendees will likewise be inspired to avail themselves of their own opportunities.

“Maya Angelou avers, ‘Baby, I can discern precisely why you are where you are, for you have been obedient to the call,’” she remarked, recollecting her exchanges with the poet and literary titan.

“That is my message to one and all: everyone is in receipt of the call.

If you are obedient to the call, if you surrender to the call, you shall be conducted to loftier ground than ever you had imagined.”
