Dodgers manager Dave Roberts moved Shohei Ohtani to the No. 5 spot in the lineup for Tuesday night's Game 3.

The game was against the Atlanta Braves in the NL Division Series.

Roberts said it was a one-game adjustment.

It was meant to give the Dodgers a different look against Braves left-hander Chris Sale.

The best-of-five series was tied 1-1.

Ohtani went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts when Sale shut out the Dodgers 1-0 on Aug. 26.

For his career, Ohtani is 3 for 15 with no homers and 1 RBI against Sale.

The No. 5 spot is the lowest Ohtani has hit since 2020 with the Angels.

Mookie Betts hit leadoff and Freddie Freeman hit second on Tuesday.

Roberts said he discussed the move with Ohtani on Monday night.

He said the four-time MVP "completely understood."

Roberts said Ohtani told him he had planned to ask to hit seventh in September.

That showed he wants to help the team.

Roberts said the change was not a sign of things to come.

He said it was just for Tuesday.

Ohtani hit .275 with 30 homers and 81 RBIs in the regular season.

He had two hits and two strikeouts in eight at-bats in the first two games of the series.

Roberts said Ohtani has been chasing pitches.

He said Ohtani will keep seeing pitches off the plate until he shows restraint.

Roberts said he does not expect Ohtani to hit fifth in Wednesday's Game 4.
