Manchester City has been found guilty of systematically breaking the Premier League’s financial rules for nearly a decade.
The verdict came from an independent disciplinary commission.
Possible punishments include a fine, a points deduction, or even expulsion from the Premier League.
City could also face compensation claims from rival teams.
The club is owned by the Abu Dhabi-controlled City Football Group.
It has rejected the verdict and promises a relentless campaign to clear its name.
City has insisted it will appeal.
It said it is innocent and that a comprehensive body of evidence supports its position.
To appeal, City would email the chair of the commission’s three-person panel.
That chair would appoint a new three-person appeal board, including one person who has held judicial office.
A hearing should finish within 12 weeks and last no more than five consecutive days.
City’s punishment will be handled in a separate, confidential hearing.
The commission could issue a reprimand, fine, suspension, points deduction, or expulsion.
No club has ever been expelled from the Premier League.
The biggest points deduction was 10 against Everton in 2023, later cut to six on appeal.
City’s breaches were more widespread and included a refusal to cooperate.
The Independent Football Regulator could also intervene and has the power to remove unsuitable owners.
