Lawyers for the NCAA deal suggested a big change on Wednesday. They want to let athletes who lost their places play again. These players would not count towards the team limits as long as they can still play.

The lawyers told the court that schools should make lists of students they did not choose for the teams. They think this number could be very large.

These special students, called 'Designated Student-Athletes' in the new paper, can be asked to come back and try to join the team again, but it is not sure they will get a place. Or they can choose to go to different schools.

These athletes will not count towards the new team size limits.

The plan would also help high school students who were promised a place but then it was taken away. This help would last as long as they can play in college.

Wilken has said yes to the main parts of the deal. This means each school can give up to $20.5 million every year to their players. Also, more than $2.7 billion will be paid to players. These players said the NCAA and the five biggest groups unfairly stopped them from making money from their name, picture, and what they are known for.

The new plan was made after two weeks of hard work. This happened because Wilken told the lawyers to talk again. He said the part about how many players could be on the team was not good enough.

The plan wants to change the rules about the number of scholarships.

Wilken felt sorry for the many players who lost their places on school teams when the agreement started.

Wilken wanted the lawyers to change a part of the plan. The NCAA said no at first. They thought changing it would cause more problems. But Wilken told them they must do it. He said if they didn't, the whole plan might fail.

The lawyers for the people who started the case said they did better than the judge. They let schools take back players they had cut, and this didn't count against their limit. They also made this possible for new schools.

The people who sued think the changes to the agreement are more than the court asked for, according to their court paper.

The lawyers said it's not sure the athletes will get their places on the team again.

They wrote, "The schools said they can still choose their players, and this was always true. The new rules don't change this, even with the limits on players. The changes make sure that players who lost their place because of the new limits will be in the same situation as before the limits. So, the limits do not apply to them."

The judge will likely give people who don't like the plan a short time to write down their new problems before she makes her final decision. Steve Berman, one of the main lawyers for the people who started the case, said this week that the people who don't like the plan will not be happy with the new plan.

The NCAA and its many schools have over 500,000 athletes. They need to decide quickly because time is short.
