The Formula 1 team Alpine is changing one of its drivers. Franco Colapinto will drive in the next five races. Jack Doohan will not drive in these races.
Alpine said the change was on Wednesday, one day after Oliver Oakes left his job as team boss. The team said Flavio Briatore will stay as advisor and do Oakes' job.
Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna race. Alpine will check how he is doing before the British race in July, the team said.
After six races, the Alpine team is ninth in the F1 competition. The next race is from May 16 to 18 in Imola.
At the Miami race on Sunday, Doohan hit another car at the start. Then, he crashed on the next lap.
Before the Miami race, Oakes said the news about changing drivers was not true. He said the new driver from Australia would stay in the car.
Doohan did not get any points in his seven GP races. His best place was 13th. Now, he will be the team's reserve driver again.
Jack Doohan's father was a famous motorcycle racer. Jack drove in his first Formula 1 race at the end of 2024. This year, he started the season for Alpine in Australia. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left the team because he was not happy with his results in 2024.
Colapinto started working for Alpine in January. He is a reserve driver there. Before that, he drove for Williams in 2024. He got five points. He drove instead of Logan Sargeant in August.
