Meta launched a personal AI agent called Muse on Tuesday.
It is for people aged 18 and over who need help with daily tasks like schedules and shopping.
Meta says Muse can also turn long-term goals into action plans.
The agent is only available in the U.S. for now.
Meta is highlighting Muse's safety and privacy features.
The agent runs on a dedicated, secure virtual machine that holds both the agent and the user's data.
People can message Muse in a separate app or through WhatsApp.
It can handle simple tasks like sending an email or booking travel, as well as bigger goals like creating a yearlong exercise plan.
Meta says that once a person shares a goal, Muse helps develop a personalized plan and coordinates time and resources.
It can open a browser, fill out forms, and negotiate on the user's behalf.
Tech companies see AI agents as the next step after chatbots, which only answer questions and retrieve information.
An AI agent can execute jobs without step-by-step instructions, handling a whole process on its own.
For Meta, Muse fits CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of AI superintelligence for "everyone."
In a recent essay, he said everyone will have a personal agent that works 24/7 to improve relationships, health, career, and more.
He said it will free up time and help people accomplish more.
The open question is whether people will actually use it.
