Wall Street stayed near its record high on Tuesday.

It was a quiet day for global markets.

The S&P 500 dipped 0.1% and sat 0.5% below its all-time high set last month.

The Dow Jones fell 295 points, or 0.5%, while the Nasdaq added 0.3% to its own record.

Stocks had risen earlier when Brent crude briefly fell below $98 a barrel.

Oil later trimmed those losses, with Brent at $100.23.

That is down from nearly $110 last week.

However, it is still far above the $72 seen before the war with Iran began.

Prices have swung on uncertainty over when crude can flow freely again from the Middle East.

AutoZone rose 6% after beating profit forecasts, though revenue fell short.

CEO Phil Daniele said the auto parts seller faced a difficult selling environment early in the quarter.

But conditions improved afterward, he said.

Thor Industries stock rose 3.7% on a stronger profit.

CEO Bob Martin said expensive fuel, high interest rates and inflation were stretching customers' budgets.

Strong profit reports have helped push U.S. stocks near record highs.

This is despite high oil prices and worries about AI stocks.

Analysts expect S&P 500 companies to report nearly 29% growth for the third quarter, according to FactSet.

On Holding jumped 10.7% after setting financial goals.

It also approved up to $1 billion in buybacks through 2029.

Oil and gas stocks fell with crude prices.

Banks dropped after the Federal Reserve raised short-term rates last week.

The 10-year Treasury yield edged up to 4.97%.
