In the US, shops sold 0.9% less in May, and 0.1% less in April, the government said. This happened because people bought fewer cars. In March, many people bought cars to avoid a new 25% tax on cars from other countries. People are not feeling as good about spending money. But prices are not changing much, and many people have jobs. So, people might still buy some things in the next few months. If you don't count gas, cars, and restaurants, sales went up by 0.4% last month. This means people are still buying some things they want. Many types of shops sold less, but online shops, clothes shops, and furniture shops sold more. The drop in shop sales is probably because people are worried about higher prices due to the new taxes.
