Russia launched a major overnight attack on nine Ukrainian cities, with explosions heard in Kyiv through Thursday morning.

The Russian Defense Ministry called the strikes "massive" and said they targeted military-related facilities.

These included industrial sites, oil refineries, and port infrastructure.

Civilian areas were also hit.

Ukrainian officials reported two deaths, including a 78-year-old woman in the Zaporizhzhia region, and at least 14 people wounded.

In Kyiv, four districts were struck, damaging residential buildings, a school, and a medical facility.

No casualties were reported there.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia keeps investing in missiles and expanding the war, so more countermeasures are needed.

He noted European promises of more air defense aid and called for additional ballistic missile defense packages purchased from the United States.

Ukraine's air force said it shot down or suppressed seven Russian ballistic missiles.

Russia also hit three major distribution centers, including depots for a toy store chain and a confectionery company.

A glide bomb attack forced the shutdown of a heat and power plant in the Kherson region.

In Moldova, five drones breached its airspace overnight, though the source was not specified.

Ukraine's General Staff said its own strikes hit Russian command posts near Donetsk.

Russia claimed to have shot down 267 Ukrainian drones over 14 regions.
