After Iran attacked a US military base in Qatar with missiles, possibly in response to the US bombing its nuclear sites, President Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete ceasefire." However, the situation remained uncertain after more Iranian missiles hit Israel, even after the first deadline for the ceasefire had passed.
Iranian attacks made Israelis go into bomb shelters when the sun came up. At least four people died and eight were hurt, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue services. Israel has not yet said yes or no to Trump's idea, which might give them more time to fight back. But Iran's state TV announced that a general ceasefire began at 7:30 a.m. local time.
In Beersheba, emergency services said they found four bodies in one building and were still looking for more. The streets around where the explosion happened were covered with broken glass and rubble. Windows were broken in nearby buildings, and worried people stood outside their damaged homes. Three people were rescued from buildings close by.
The biggest city in southern Israel was directly hit, only a few days after its hospital was badly damaged by a missile attack.
After Iran launched missiles at a U.S. military base in Qatar, President Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete ceasefire." Iran's attack was a response to the U.S. bombing its nuclear sites. Iran's Foreign Minister said that Iran would stop its attacks if Israel stopped theirs by 4 a.m. Tehran time on Tuesday. However, Israel's military later reported that Iran had launched more missiles towards them almost an hour after that time.
After Iran attacked a U.S. military base in Qatar with missiles, in response to the U.S. bombing its nuclear sites, President Trump announced a "complete ceasefire" between Israel and Iran. However, the ceasefire became uncertain after Iran launched more missiles at Israel, hitting Beersheba and causing deaths.
Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a "complete and total ceasefire." This announcement came shortly after Iran launched a missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar. Iran's attack was in response to America bombing its nuclear sites. However, Israel has not confirmed Trump's ceasefire announcement.
Trump announced on Truth Social that the war would officially end when a ceasefire began around midnight Washington time.
More than an hour after the temporary ceasefire began, which asked Iran to stop its attacks, Trump announced: "THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT BREAK IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!"
Israel didn't immediately confirm a ceasefire, and there were no reports of Israeli attacks in Iran after 4 a.m. Tehran time. Before that, Israel had carried out strong attacks in Iranian cities. In past conflicts, Israel has often increased its attacks just before ceasefires began.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on X that there is no agreement yet for a ceasefire or to stop military actions. However, he added that if Israel stops its illegal attacks on Iranians by 4 am Tehran time, Iran will not continue its response.
Araghchi said his message was posted at 4:16 a.m. Tehran time, and the decision to stop their military actions would be made later.
The Israeli military chose not to comment on Trump's ceasefire statement, and Benjamin Netanyahu's office did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
In Israel, at least 24 people have died and over 1,000 have been hurt in the conflict. A group called Human Rights Activists, based in Washington, reports that Israeli attacks on Iran have killed at least 974 people and injured 3,458 others.
The group, which gives detailed numbers of people killed in Iranian protests, including those after Mahsa Amini's death in 2022, stated that 387 of those who died were civilians and 268 were security staff.
A State Department official said that the U.S. has helped about 250 American citizens and their close family members leave Israel. They used government, military, and special flights, which started over the weekend. It is believed that around 700,000 American citizens are in Israel, and many of them are also Israeli citizens.
