An Air India plane crash killed 241 people, but only one person, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, survived. This started many online discussions about how unusual such events are. Ramesh was reportedly thrown from the plane and, even though he was confused and badly injured, he managed to walk to an ambulance for help. There have been other similar cases in recent decades. For example, Cecelia Crocker survived a 1987 crash that killed 154 people, including her family, when the plane's wing hit a light pole during takeoff. George Lamson Jr. also survived a 1985 crash, and Bahia Bakari lived through a Yemenia Airways flight crash near the Comoro Islands in 2009. Also, Jim Polehinke was the only survivor of a 2006 Comair flight crash in Lexington, Kentucky.
