After President Javier Milei stopped Argentina's federal agency (DADSE) from providing expensive medications for cancer patients, a secret Facebook group was created. This group connects people who have extra drugs with those who need them. Milei's budget cuts have seriously affected Argentina's public health system. For example, the healthcare budget was cut by 48%, thousands of Health Ministry employees were fired, and programs for early cancer detection and vaccinations were paused. This situation has caused the prices of prescription medicines and private health plans to increase significantly, by 250% and 118% respectively. Also, medical coverage for retirees has been greatly reduced. Because there isn't universal health coverage and healthcare costs are rising, Argentina is moving towards a healthcare system similar to the U.S. Milei's staff cuts have made it difficult to plan vaccinations and collect data. This happened at the same time as the country's first measles outbreak in decades. The cuts have also led to a rise in sexually transmitted infections, including a 20% increase in HIV cases and a 50% increase in syphilis cases. Reports indicate that over 60 cancer patients have died because the DADSE medication program was stopped, and more than 1,500 patients are still waiting for their drugs.
