Israel attacked Iran's capital, aiming at its nuclear program and killing two important military leaders, Gen. Hossein Salami and Gen. Mohammad Bagheri. This was the largest attack Iran has faced since its war with Iraq in the 1980s. Israel said the attack was needed to stop Iran's fast-growing nuclear program from becoming a danger. After this, Iran sent out drones, and its leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promised to punish Israel strongly. Israeli planes hit about 100 places, including Iran's main nuclear fuel plant. Because of the attack, the sky over Israel, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan was closed, and oil prices went up a lot. Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, warned that Iran would probably strike back right away.
