Israel launched a major attack on Iran's capital, aiming at its nuclear program and killing at least two important military leaders, General Hossein Salami and General Mohammad Bagheri. This was the biggest attack Iran has faced since its war with Iraq in the 1980s. Israeli leaders said these attacks were a response to Iran's quickly growing nuclear program. They explained that this attack was needed to stop an immediate danger from Iran's possible nuclear weapons. Iran responded by sending drones, and its top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, promised "strong punishment" for Israel. Israeli planes attacked about 100 targets, including Iran's main nuclear site.
