While he was in this role, many people lost their jobs, government departments were cut, and there were legal problems. Musk first wanted to cut $2 trillion in spending, but this was reduced to $1 trillion, and then to only $150 billion. This caused more frustration and disagreements with other people in Trump's government. Musk left after he criticized Trump's new laws, especially a "massive spending bill" that Musk said would make the government's debt bigger. Even though he left, the White House still plans to make some of the spending cuts Musk suggested. However, Musk has said he is disappointed with the government's system and plans to spend less money on politics.
