Mary Lou Retton, a famous American gymnast, was arrested in her hometown of West Virginia for driving under the influence, a minor offense. Police stopped her on May 17 after receiving reports that her Porsche was being driven unsafely. Officers noticed she smelled of alcohol, had difficulty speaking clearly, and saw an open wine container in her car. Retton, who is 57, failed a sobriety test and refused to take a breath test or a blood test. She was later released after paying a $1,500 bond. Her lawyer, Edmund J. Rollo, has not yet commented. This arrest happened after Retton's public recovery in 2023 from a rare and serious type of pneumonia that required her to be in intensive care.
