They said big AI companies are in a race.

The companies build technology they cannot control.

Jacob Coxon is a former Anthropic engineer.

He said the firms act like fast startups.

He said this does not fit the most powerful technology ever built.

Coxon said AI can bring big benefits.

But he said there is no transparency and no safeguards.

So people will likely lose control of these systems.

He warned this could end in human extinction.

He resigned and shared his fears.

Days later, top bosses at Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceXAI agreed.

They said AI development needs to slow down.

A second group from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta also spoke.

They said their systems already help daily life.

They said they focus strongly on safety.

Morgan Dwyer is from OpenAI.

He said he did not know the worst-case risk level.

He said any chance of disaster is not acceptable.

Julie Menin is the Council speaker.

She called that answer "flippant at best."

The Council is thinking about new rules.

The rules would make companies share information about AI tools.

Other ideas would need outside approval for city AI systems.

They would also let whistleblowers get part of fines.

Kathy Hochul is the New York governor.

She and other governors want reporting and transparency standards.

Logan Graham is from Anthropic.

He said the company welcomes "smart regulation."

He said state and local governments have a role in building frameworks.
