OpenAI CEO Sam Altman introduced a new AI agent on Tuesday.
He called it “remarkably capable, always-on.”
The announcement came one day after the company stopped the rollout of a more advanced model.
The company stopped it because of safety concerns.
At OpenAI’s yearly developer conference, Altman announced several products and updates.
These included new agents called Dots.
They are designed to finish ongoing tasks for users on their own.
The agents compete with Meta’s personal agent Muse.
Muse became very popular after Meta’s conference last week.
Altman said Dot agents would be “like an AI helper that always has your back.”
On Monday, OpenAI said it was delaying the other model.
The delay was because of concerns from its researchers.
That followed wider industry calls to slow the pace of AI development.
The goal was to let safety measures catch up.
Altman did not mention those concerns in his keynote.
But in a question-and-answer session, he said the company was investing more in safety.
He also said it was investing more in security and monitoring of AI agents.
He said the AI boom should be seen more as a renaissance than an industrial revolution.
OpenAI also announced GPT-6.1 Sol.
It is an upgraded version of its GPT-6 Sol model.
The company also announced a premium speed tier called “Ultrafast.”
The announcements came just before leaders of six leading AI companies signed a voluntary accord with President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
The accord asks them to “self-police” development.
It calls for “robust internal controls” and an “independent external auditor.”
It also calls for a board committee at each company.
Altman did not attend, but OpenAI president and co-founder Greg Brockman was at the White House.
