Meta is investing $14.3 billion in the AI company Scale and has hired its CEO, Alexandr Wang, to join Meta's advanced AI team. This is part of Mark Zuckerberg's plan to improve Meta's AI, as they are competing with companies like Google and OpenAI. Scale will remain independent, but this agreement will significantly increase the business relationship between the two companies, giving Meta a 49% share of Scale. Wang will move to Meta with a small team but will stay on Scale's board, and Jason Droege will become the temporary CEO. This investment means Scale is now worth over $29 billion. It's not clear what this deal will mean for Scale's other customers, such as General Motors, Toyota, and other major language model providers.
