Some people think TikTok makes it hard to focus. But people everywhere are watching a live show online from a Swedish TV channel they don't know. It's called the Great Moose Migration.
Every spring for thousands of years, moose have walked across the Ångerman River to find a warmer place for the summer. But since 2019, everyone can watch this for three weeks online. Sweden's TV channel SVT shows the moose moving, using more than 30 cameras to see everything.
Most of the time, the live video shows peaceful scenes of forests and rivers. If you're lucky, you might see a moose walking by. The moose doesn't know it's famous around the world. It's just a moose, walking along without any worries.
Usually, the stream is quiet. Sometimes, you hear the wind and birds. It's nice, even if you forget the stream is playing and birds suddenly make a noise far away.
A student from Sweden told the AP: "I feel relaxed, but I also think, 'Oh, look, a moose. What if there is a moose? I can't go to the toilet!'
You can watch the moose live stream throughout the night, even in the dark. We use special cameras that allow us to see the moose at night. However, the black and white image might remind you more of a scary movie than a nature program. But seeing a moose is still exciting, even if the picture looks a bit unusual.
Last year, 9 million people watched the moose stream on SVT. That's a lot of people, especially because SVT only shows nature live with a small team of 15 people. For comparison, 22 million people watched Shark Week on Discovery Channel in 2023.
These live videos are interesting because they are very different from what we usually see online. On TikTok, you see short videos that are just for you, so you want to keep watching. People on YouTube make their videos carefully so you stay interested for a long time.
However, the moose aren't seeking anything from us. They aren't even aware of our presence, supporting them.
