Some people say TikTok is making our attention spans shorter. But people worldwide are watching a boring live stream from a Swedish TV channel they likely don't know. It's called the Great Moose Migration.

Every spring for thousands of years, moose have crossed the Ångerman River to find a warmer home for the summer. However, since 2019, people worldwide can watch this journey online for three weeks. Sweden's SVT television station shows the migration live using more than 30 cameras to film the very slow movement of the moose.

Usually, the live video shows peaceful forests and rivers, and sometimes you might see a moose walking by, who doesn't know it's famous around the world. It's just a moose, walking slowly and not worried about anything.

Usually, the stream is very quiet. Sometimes, you will hear the wind and birds. It is pleasant, even if you forget you left the livestream open on your computer and are surprised by some animals far away.

As one Swedish student told the AP: "I feel relaxed, but at the same time I'm a little worried about the moose. What if I need to go to the toilet and there's a moose?"

The video stream continues even at night, thanks to cameras that can see in the dark. Although the black and white images are a bit scary, like a horror movie, seeing a moose at night is still exciting.

Last year, 9 million people watched SVT's live stream of moose. In comparison, Discovery Channel's Shark Week had over 22 million viewers in 2023. Since SVT has a small team and simple nature content, its viewership was quite good compared to Shark Week.

What makes this type of livestream so interesting is that it's very different from what we usually see online. Your TikTok feed has short videos made to fit your interests perfectly, which makes it hard to stop watching. YouTubers carefully edit their videos to hold our attention for as long as they can.

But the moose don't care about us. They don't know we are here, even though we are supporting them.
