Manchester City has agreed a fee with Chelsea for midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The deal is worth 125 million pounds ($169 million).
That matches a British record.
The Argentine international is set to join before the transfer window closes.
City is rebuilding its midfield after Rodri and Bernardo Silva left.
The club has already signed Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The Fernandez deal would push City’s spending this window to about 392 million pounds ($530 million).
City is also close to signing Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye for 60 million pounds ($81 million).
Jack Grealish is expected to leave City again on loan to Everton.
The Premier League has spent 2.82 billion pounds ($3.8 billion) this window.
That is near the record of 3.14 billion pounds set in 2025.
Other deadline moves include Gabriel Jesus joining Barcelona from Arsenal on a three-year deal.
Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade is reportedly set for a loan to Juventus.
Moussa Diaby returned to Bayer Leverkusen from Al-Ittihad on a five-year contract.
Chelsea’s Marc Guiu moved to Leipzig for up to 17 million euros ($19.7 million).
