North Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Belichick has resigned.

The school is finishing an investigation into its football program.

He is the son of head coach Bill Belichick.

The school said Thursday that his resignation starts in late October.

That is when his medical leave ends.

The leave was announced early in preseason camp.

Steve Belichick is the second well-known person to resign during the probe.

General manager Michael Lombardi resigned earlier this month.

The school said the investigation found that some actions showed a disregard for Carolina's values.

It also said the actions went against its standards of conduct.

It did not say what those actions were.

The school also said the actions were isolated.

It said they were not a systemic failure.

Lead investigator and attorney Nate Huff said his team did about 60 interviews.

He confirmed the probe looked into claims of possible drug use.

It also looked into inappropriate relationships and NCAA rule violations.

Huff said he never felt that university or athletics leaders limited him.

He said they did not steer him either.

He said his team had full access.

He said Bill Belichick and his staff made themselves available during the season.

Bill Belichick said he believes his program fully follows the rules.

He added that everyone, including himself, is responsible for doing things properly.

The school said it continues to support him and the football program.

UNC said all necessary corrective actions are underway.

It said it considers the investigation resolved.

The school declined to comment on specific individuals.

It cited its personnel policy.
