Shohei Ohtani, a well-known Japanese baseball player, is now the third player in Dodgers history to hit 20 home runs in the first 55 games of the season. This achievement puts Ohtani in the same group as Gil Hodges and Cody Bellinger. It's also the 64th time a player in the major leagues has done this in the same period, and the first since Pete Alonso in 2023. Ohtani, who has won MVP three times and leads the major leagues in home runs, scored with a two-run hit in a game against the Cleveland Guardians. This is the fourth time this season Ohtani has hit a home run to the opposite side of the field. Interestingly, even Ohtani's hits that aren't perfect can still be home runs, and he has hit home runs in three games in a row twice this season. Ohtani, who has been chosen as an All-Star four times, has hit at least 12 home runs in a month three times since he joined the Dodgers.
