Formula 1 team Alpine has changed its drivers. Franco Colapinto will race in the next five Grand Prix events instead of Jack Doohan.

Alpine said on Wednesday that there was a change. This was one day after Oliver Oakes stopped being the team leader. The team said Flavio Briatore will continue to be an executive advisor and will do Oakes's job.

Alpine announced that Colapinto will join Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. They will decide about his future before the British Grand Prix in July, after a new check.

After six races, Alpine is ninth among the F1 teams. The next race is from May 16 to 18 in Imola.

At Sunday’s Miami Grand Prix, Doohan hit another car at the start of the race and then crashed on the second lap.

Media reports about changing the driver for the Miami Grand Prix were denied by Oakes before the weekend. He said that the new Australian driver would stay in the car.

Doohan, who didn't score any points in his seven GP races and finished best in 13th place, will go back to being the team's reserve driver.

Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan was a five-time motorcycle world champion, first raced in Formula 1 in the last race of 2024. He started this year's season for Alpine at the first race, the Australian Grand Prix. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who left Alpine after a difficult year in 2024.

Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January. Before that, he raced for Williams in 2024. He got five points when he took the place of Logan Sargeant in August.
