Freddie Freeman had two singles and a triple with the bases loaded, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Miami Marlins 10-1 on Wednesday.
Freeman helped his team score four times and continued hitting well for 12 games in a row. His team, the Dodgers, who are the best in Major League Baseball (MLB) with 25 wins and 12 losses, won two out of three games in Miami and won their fourth series in a row. In this series, Freeman had eight hits out of 13 chances to hit, scored six runs for his team, and hit two home runs.
On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani hit a triple and walked four times. One of his walks was intentional in the seventh inning when his team scored six runs against pitcher Lake Bachar.
James Outman, who batted for another player, hit a home run in the ninth inning that scored three runs and made the Dodgers' lead bigger.
Landon Knack had a great game, allowing four hits but no runs, and striking out five players. He had just joined the team earlier that day from a lower league. Another player, Matt Sauer, took over from Knack and finished the game by pitching the last four innings. This was Sauer's first time saving a game.
Miami's starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo, gave up only one hit and struck out seven players in 5.1 innings without allowing any runs. He was replaced by Cade Gibson in the sixth inning before facing Ohtani for the third time. In the next turn at bat, Ohtani hit a triple off Gibson.
Beginner catcher Augustin Ramirez hit a single and a double for the Marlins (14-22). The team has now lost nine of their last eleven games.
Jesús Sánchez hit a single in the sixth inning and scored Miami's only point with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers scored a lot of runs against Bachar. He allowed a walk, a single, and another single that scored a run. Bachar then intentionally walked Ohtani and Betts, so the bases were full of players. Freeman hit a triple that brought three runners home, and then another single scored more runs.
The Dodgers only got one hit in the first five innings against Bellozo, but then they got 11 hits from four different Miami pitchers.
On Thursday, the Dodgers start a four-game series in Arizona. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be the starting pitcher for them. His record is 4 wins and 2 losses, and his earned run average is 0.90. The Marlins do not play on Thursday. On Friday, Max Meyer will start for the Marlins in the first game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. His record is 2 wins and 3 losses, and his earned run average is 3.92.
