Formula 1 team Alpine has changed its drivers. They are using Franco Colapinto instead of Jack Doohan for at least the next five races.
Alpine said they made the change on Wednesday, the day after Oliver Oakes left his job as team boss. The team said Flavio Briatore will keep working as an advisor and do Oakes's job.
Alpine announced that Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. They will check his performance again before the British Grand Prix in July.
After six races, Alpine is in ninth place in the Formula 1 constructors' standings. The next race weekend is from May 16th to 18th at Imola.
At Sunday's Miami Grand Prix, Doohan hit another car on the first lap and then crashed on the second lap.
Before the Miami Grand Prix weekend, Oakes said that news reports about changing drivers were not true, and that the new Australian driver would continue to race.
Doohan, who didn't score any points in his seven main races and finished best in 13th place, will return to being the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan won the motorcycle world championship five times, started his Formula 1 career in the last race of 2024 and then raced for Alpine in the first race of this year, the Australian Grand Prix. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who had a difficult year in 2024 and left Alpine.
Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January. Before that, he raced for Williams in 2024 and earned five points after replacing Logan Sargeant in August.
