Freddie Freeman got two singles and hit a triple when the bases were full, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Miami Marlins 10-1 on Wednesday.
Freeman helped his team, the Dodgers, win by getting players home four times. He has now hit the ball successfully in 12 games in a row. The Dodgers are the best team in Major League Baseball (MLB) with 25 wins and 12 losses. They won two out of three games in Miami and have won their last four series against other teams. In the Miami series, Freeman hit the ball well 8 times out of 13 chances, and he helped his team score six times. He also hit two home runs.
Shohei Ohtani hit a triple and walked three times on Wednesday. One of the walks was given to him on purpose during an inning where his team scored six runs against the pitcher Lake Bachar.
Substitute player James Outman increased the Dodgers' lead with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Landon Knack (2-0) gave up four hits and no points, and also got five batters out. He had just joined the team earlier that day from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Matt Sauer also joined the team and took over from Knack, pitching the last four innings to save the game for the first time in his career.
Miami pitcher Valente Bellozo gave up only one hit and struck out seven batters in five scoreless innings.
Young catcher Augustin Ramirez hit one single and one double for the Marlins (14-22). This team has lost 9 of their last 11 games.
Jesús Sánchez got a base hit in the sixth inning and his sacrifice fly in the ninth brought in Miami’s only point.
The Dodgers scored many runs in the seventh inning when Bachar was pitching. He gave up a walk and two singles, and also allowed a run to score. He then intentionally walked Ohtani and walked Mookie Betts with the bases full. After that, Freeman hit a triple that brought in all the runners, and the Dodgers scored another run with a single.
The Dodgers only had one hit in the first five innings against Bellozo, but then got eleven hits from four different Miami pitchers.
On Thursday, the Dodgers start a four-game series in Arizona. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will pitch for them. His record is 4 wins and 2 losses, and his earned run average is 0.90. The Marlins do not play on Thursday. On Friday, Max Meyer will pitch for the Marlins. This will be the first game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. His record is 2 wins and 3 losses, and his earned run average is 3.92.
