The Golden State Warriors plan to play without Stephen Curry for the next three games against Minnesota. This is because a scan showed a small injury to his left leg muscle.
The Warriors announced that Curry would miss at least one week because of the injury he got on Tuesday night in Game 1. He had to leave the game early in the second quarter, but the team still won 99-88. He scored 13 points in 13 minutes, which helped Golden State get a good lead and win at the Timberwolves' stadium.
"Every year, the playoffs mean you have to change and adjust, if it's about the plan for a game, a player getting hurt, or who is playing," said coach Steve Kerr. "We have faced this situation before, and we believe we can handle it again."
The second game of the series will be played in Minneapolis on Thursday. Then, the series will go to San Francisco for game three on Saturday and game four on Monday. It seems Curry might return for game five on May 14th. After that game, there will be three days with no games before game six on May 18th.
Curry has never had a serious hamstring injury, so it's hard to know how long he'll be away. People are asking if the Warriors can manage without the best 3-point shooter in NBA history until he returns later in the series. However, it's probably not smart for them to rely on that.
Kerr stated, "We believe our defense is the best in the league, and this has been shown over the past few months."
However, the current Golden State team is not as good as the teams in the past. Back then, Curry and Draymond Green were younger, and important players like Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala helped them win a lot. By 2018, they also had Kevin Durant.
At this moment, the Warriors were happy with the team's full effort, especially from Jimmy Butler, Buddy Hield, and Green in the first game, where Coach Kerr used 12 different players.
Without Curry, Butler will control the ball most of the time, just like he did on Tuesday.
“Everyone is ready. Everyone who plays is trying to make good plays,” Timberwolves player Mike Conley said. “So you need to focus even more on the game, who you are playing against, and what they usually do. Because they are not just looking for Curry. Of course, Buddy will play more strongly, Jimmy will play more strongly, but they have players who can score points, and they might try to do that together as a team.”
