Formula 1 team Alpine has changed its drivers and will now use Franco Colapinto for the next five races instead of Jack Doohan.
Alpine said on Wednesday that there was a change. This was one day after Oliver Oakes stopped being the team principal. The team also said that Flavio Briatore will stay as an advisor and do Oakes' job.
Alpine announced that Colapinto will race with Pierre Gasly from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. They will check his performance again before the British Grand Prix in July.
After six races, Alpine is in ninth place in the F1 constructors' competition. The next race is from May 16 to 18 in Imola.
At Sunday's race in Miami, Doohan hit another car at the start and then crashed on the second lap.
Before the Miami GP weekend, Oakes said that media reports about changing the driver were not true, explaining that the new Australian driver would keep his position.
Doohan, who didn't score any points in his seven GP races and whose best result was 13th, will return to being the team's reserve driver.
Jack Doohan, whose father Mick Doohan was a five-time motorcycle world champion, started his first Formula 1 race for Alpine this year at the Australian Grand Prix. He had his first Formula 1 drive at the end of last year. He took the place of Esteban Ocon, who had a difficult season with Alpine in 2024.
Colapinto became a reserve driver for Alpine in January. Before that, he raced for Williams in 2024. He got five points after taking Logan Sargeant's place in August.
