Elvis Presley bought Graceland in 1957.
It was a big house.
It had about 14 acres of land.
He moved in with his mother, father and grandmother.
His wife Priscilla came later.
His daughter Lisa Marie came later too.
The house was on Highway 51 South.
Now it is called Elvis Presley Boulevard.
The gates are made of iron.
They have musical notes on them.
They have guitar players who look like Elvis.
From the start, people could visit the home.
Bruce Springsteen told a story.
He jumped over the wall in the 1970s.
He hoped to meet Elvis.
Elvis was not home.
But Elvis watched for fans on cameras.
He went down to the gates.
He signed autographs for fans.
Elvis died at Graceland in 1977.
Mourners stood outside the walls.
They waited in a vigil.
They came back the next year.
They came back the next year too.
The home opened for tours in 1982.
Fans could go inside.
They walked past Elvis' grave.
Elvis is buried at Graceland.
He is buried in the yard.
His parents are buried there too.
His grandmother is buried there.
His daughter is buried there.
His grandson is buried there.
Today people treat Graceland as a special place.
This is strange when you think about it.
Most other famous people's homes do not have many fans.
This is true even 50 years after they die.
In 2006, someone asked for National Historic Landmark status.
The request said the link between a man and his home was special.
It said this was new in the 20th century.
The name Graceland may also be important.
But Elvis did not choose the name himself.
