Chris Brown, a singer who has won a Grammy award, was accused of hitting a music producer in a London club in 2023, police said on Thursday.

Brown, who is 36 years old, was arrested at a hotel in Manchester and is accused of hurting someone badly.

The Sun newspaper said that Abe Diaw, a producer, told them Chris Brown hit him for no reason at a London club called Tape in February 2023. The club is in a nice area called Mayfair. Diaw said he had to go to the hospital after the fight. Brown was visiting the UK for his tour then.

A newspaper said they knew Brown was in the U.K. on Wednesday. They called the police to see if he was arrested. The newspaper said police officers went to Manchester and arrested him.

Someone from Brown's office didn't answer the question from The Associated Press straight away.

Brown is in police custody and will go to court in Manchester on Friday morning.

Brown, who people often call Breezy, became famous as a young singer in 2005 and has made many popular songs like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.”
