Qatar and other countries in the region pushed for a peaceful end to the war with Iran on Thursday.
Qatar’s prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, met Iranian officials in Tehran.
He talked about ways to make the situation less dangerous.
He also discussed a plan with Oman to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz.
He said countries must respect each other’s borders.
He also said ships must be free to move.
Pakistan said it was also working for peace.
The country’s foreign ministry said a senior military official visited Tehran recently.
The visit was to bring back a June agreement on reopening the strait.
At the same time, the British military said an oil tanker was hit by an unknown object in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday.
The crew was safe.
There were no reports of damage to the environment.
Iran said the new U.S. sanctions were not important.
Its foreign ministry spokesman criticized a U.S. coalition with Bahrain.
A top negotiator thanked China for rejecting U.S. policies against Iran.
Tehran had earlier said it would answer strongly to more sanctions.
In Gaza, three people died in Israeli strikes on Thursday, local health officials said.
Israel’s military said two strikes hit a Hamas fighter.
The U.S. envoy for the ceasefire, Nickolay Mladenov, told Israel to stop its attacks.

Also, Israel removed two Dutch diplomats from a Gaza ceasefire center.
